Thought For The Week 11 October 2020

When the Brent’s away, the mice will pray!

As many of you will know, Brent is taking some leave over the next four weeks.  During that time he will be embarking upon a 10 day tour of the South Island on his very own, human powered bicycle.  What an exciting adventure!  What a Brave undertaking!  Brent, we wish you all the best.

I’m sure that you’ll join me in praying for safe travel for Brent during this time, and that he will return to us refreshed and inspired.

As you read this, I will be on my way to Hanmer for the Alpine Presbytery retreat.  The Presbytery retreats are one of the best things that happen in our wider life.  This is a special time to be reminded that we are not in this on our own here in Timaru, but we’re part of a wide body of believers, travelling this road together.  That sense of fellowship and manaakitanga is the wellspring for the positive and supportive culture that we enjoy across our region, from the Waitaki to Cook Strait.  This time we will be hearing from Donald Scott who invites us to “tend the vineyard within” as we draw near to God through the Wairua Tapu, the Holy Spirit.

While Brent is away, preaching duties will be shared between myself and Shona Bettany.  We will be teaching on the theme of “Justice” as we look forward to hosting the Justice Conference online on the 31st of October.

Arohanui,

Rory Grant
