Update regarding our Vanuatu friends:

I have had a number of inquiries regarding our Vanuatu friends who have been working for Southern Packers at Seadown.

Up until a fortnight ago they were all still working there.  They finished off the packing of the onions for export and helped with the remainder of the potatoes.

Last week, on Friday, 13 of the women went to Alexandra to work there, mainly in the Cherry orchards… but wherever they were needed.  They will remain there until this years harvest and then return to Seadown in February.

This means that this group will have been away from their homes and families for over 12 months.  They have been lucky, in that they have been working, and will therefore have earned more than usual.

Those that remain at Seadown are hopeful that there will be transport to get them home to Vanuatu, and that the border restrictions will be eased to allow them to do so.
