Thought For The Week 11 November 2018

Welcome to our services of worship this morning. Today is a special day commemorating the 100th Armistice Day which marks the day and hour when hostilities ceased on the Western Front in World War 1. This was to be ‘a war to end all wars’ but as history has shown it was merely the beginning of greater and more devastating conflicts to come. The topic of war gives rise to sober reflection on the human condition and our propensity for hatred, violence and state sanctioned killing. We worship a God who chose to succumb to the powers of violence and defeated them through sacrifice, instead of meeting violence with force and so we are likewise compelled to follow the way of peace. And yet we are mindful that sometimes there are few options other than war. This Armistice day may we remember with thanksgiving that all wars eventually cease and may we play our part in keeping the bonds of peace (Eph 4:3).

Next Sunday at Trinity we are in for a treat as our Girls Brigade company will be running the service which will focus on the Christmas story. They have been working very hard on this all term so I hope you will come along and support them.

Also coming up on Sunday 25th we will be welcoming new members and renewing our membership vows while we mix the ingredients for our church Christmas cake (Stir up Sunday). This will be a combined service at Trinity, 9:30am. A brief congregational meeting will be held following the service to adopt our mission plan and seek approval to paint the exterior of Trinity.
