Thought For The Week 19 August 2018
Welcome to our special combined service and AGM today. Annual General Meetings are necessary in organizations to provide a place for the election of office bearers, to report to the constituent members of progress over the past year and to approve the budget for the coming year. They are often the least attended meetings and have a reputation for being tedious! But I hope you won’t find our AGM tedious but instead will go away today encouraged, inspired and hopeful for the future God is leading us into.
Last week Catherine and I enjoyed a break in lovely Nelson and Motueka. A highlight for me was riding the Dun Mountain track, which is on the doorstep of Nelson city. The last section of the track, from Matia dam to the city was closed but by the time I got there I was about done anyway. The track follows a 19th century railway which was used for extracting copper. Empty wagons were hauled up by horses and came down loaded under gravity and control of a brakeman. This meant the track was rather steeper than I thought it would be and the descent down the other side even more so. It made for a very exciting ride!
