Thought for the Week 8 March 2026

Welcome to our service today on the third Sunday in Lent. Today we dive into the encounter Jesus has with a Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. Like the depth of that well, this story has much to explore and much to teach us about Jesus and what he offers us. It’s a fascinating and often misunderstood story. I hope you leave today having drunk from the living water of the Spirit of God!
This week Noel Crawford, Jim Garden and Max Muldrew have been making the most of the sunny weather painting fences at the manse. I want to commend these men, as well as Ken Falconer, for their efforts in maintaining our properties in good order. There have been various projects around the manse which they have attended too, such as replacing the oven, repairing the garage door and painting work. At the Trinity centre work is underway to install security cameras and to deal with water seeping into the building at the east end. Without the dedication of the building group these jobs would not get done, so, many thanks to them.
This week I received the profiles of 3 applicants for the Wayfinder position. A group representing the 3 parties (TPP, Trinity Temuka and Alpine Presbytery) will meet on Friday 13th to go through these to discern if we think anyone of them is a good fit. I’m encouraged by the calibre of the applicants received so far and thankful for Rev Dan Spragg’s leadership and wisdom in this process.
Notice: With the retirement of Carol Wilson, the office will now be closed on Wednesdays. It will be open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We will review office hours in 2 months and adjust if need be.
Nga mihi nui,
Brent
