Thought For The Week 29 June 2025

I love music. I’m not a musician by any stretch of the imagination but greatly appreciate and enjoy it.
One song that has stuck with me from when I was young was ‘Prepare Ye The Way ‘ from the musical Godspell (1973). From a gentle start it winds up into a well-known rock anthem. Calling out in the wilderness, John the Baptist announces Christ’s arrival and mission.
John the Baptist is one of the key figures in the New Testament. He’s quite the character and I do wonder how well he would fit into our society today, with his camel skin outfit along with his locust and honey diet!
What do you think? How open would we be to the messenger, or the message?
As I’ve spent time exploring more about John’s life, I found so many parts to that character that I didn’t know about. The more I learnt the more I found an intriguing and complex person that has something we can all connect to. As we discuss his life and legacy this morning, I hope we are all able to experience something new.
Ngā mihi,
Grant Holland
