Thought For The Week 1 September 2024

Welcome to our special combined service this morning. At the end of the service, we will have a congregational meeting to present the budget and adopt it for the current financial year. Copies of the budget document are available on the foyer table and there will be the opportunity to ask questions or make comments.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandads, and great grand dads among us. We hope you have a blessed day! Today also happens to be the first day of spring and the beginning of the lectionary Season of Creation. The irony is not lost on me that we have this week removed two large trees from the St Stephens property. The cedar at the corner of the driveway (planted by John Steven’s dad some 60 years ago). This was detrimental to the driveway and water main to the manse and a potential hazard to the power lines. The other tree was an oak planted by Hamish Galloway in the early 1980’s, on the north side of the church. This lovely tree was shedding many leaves, blocking the spouting of church and manse. I am always saddened when trees need to be removed but the result of this is more sunlight coming into the church and less maintenance going forward.
There is also a plan to plant more suitable things around the edge of the driveway, which we hope to develop in time.
Nga manaakitanga ki a koutou katoa
(Blessings to all)
Brent
