Thought For The Week 11 June 2023

Whenever we explore something there is always the opportunity to learn something new or see something in a different light. We find that our learning and experiences can change and form us, making us into the person, and also the people that Christ made us to be.
The following poem by David Moxon can be a prayer for us as we start our new series. David uses the wonderful image of God weaving the people of this land together, Māori and Pakeha, into a beautiful korowai (cloak) as a testament of our restored humanity in Christ. As we journey through these next six weeks, can we ask ourselves how God is weaving us into the story of his people in Aotearoa New Zealand?
Aotearoa by David Moxon
Land of the long white clouds
that come and go;
seen from the ocean
they mantle your hills
like a korowai around the shoulders.
Islands that rise up
out of the encircling waves;
food baskets that team with life,
bird song that fills the air,
koru stem unfolding.
The shining sun,
the greening trees,
the flowing waters
bless the whenua;
people make their impress in the ground.
Here we are weaving a new cloak together,
covering ourselves in pa and town
with gifts of the earth, the sea and the sky;
with all that lives and breathes
within our island home.
