Thought For The Week 11 September 2022

This week Brent, Catherine and I attended the Ministers’ cluster in Geraldine where Rev. Johanna Warren from Hakatere parish led us through a lectio divina reading Matthew’s account of the feeding of the 5,000.

It’s a familiar story. The crowd follows Jesus into the wilderness and at the end of the day, Jesus instructs his disciples to give them something to eat: “But we have so little to offer! Only five loaves and two fish!”

“Bring what you have to me.” Jesus responds.

The result? Miraculous abundance.

How often in our faith and in our lives do we feel like we are faced with problems too big to comprehend? How often do we feel that we have so little to offer?

Jesus does not expect super-human efforts from us. Rather, he invites us to bring what little we have to him. He offers us his blessing, if we will only draw near.

So whatever mountains you face in your lives at the moment, I invite you to join me: bring what little you have to Jesus. Accept his blessing on our lives – we might just find we’re part of a miracle that we could never have imagined!

Many blessings,

Rory
