Sermon Joy to the World
- Went to Star Wars this week
- I really enjoyed it.
- Funny sort of thing to say.
- What do we mean by joy?
- Pleasure/happiness/joy
- What’s the difference?
- —
- Pleasure
- _we get for ourselves_
- Happiness
- _is dependent on our circumstances_
- Joy
- _is from the Lord_
- —
- Joy
- wells up within us
- Bible is full of water images – green pastures, still waters. River of life in the desert. Come to me all who are thirsty.
- Joy
- comes to us in unexpected circumstances
- Even in the most difficult times, Joy is a gift
- Joy
- gives us hope
- When we are lost in our own hopelessness, joy is like a ray of light, lifting our eyes and leading us on
- Joy
- is from the Lord
- Pleasure is something we get for ourselves
- Happiness is just what happens to us
- Joy is something richer, deeper, beyond us and our own means.
- Joy is from the Lord.
- I think this is what Mary felt when she sang for joy as she met with her cousin Elizabeth
- Let’s share those words together now, and may the joy of the Lord be with you this Christmas & always.
