Thought for the Week 11 October 2026

McCoy’s recent report on his Wayfinding activities, which is very encouraging. Steve writes:
A regular rhythm of community connection has begun in both towns — walking neighbourhoods, spending time in CBDs, cafés, attending community events, and simply being present with curiosity and gentleness. The posture is light: noticing people, observing rhythms, and responding to the Spirit’s quiet prompts to initiate conversation.
I have met with individuals and groups, and attended events including the Temuka Community Garden, the Temuka Combined Churches Foodbank Committee, and a visit with Rev Wendy Heath of Holy Trinity Arowhenua. I’ve been present at Flava Kapa Haka Fest, Multicultural Aoraki Community dinner, John Kirwan’s talk on mental resilience at the Bay Hall, and have had many uplifting conversations during neighbourhood walks.
One encounter has been a great encouragement. I met a man who had been out of work for some time and was feeling overwhelmed. Over coffee we shared life stories, and he asked thoughtful questions about God and faith. I shared my testimony, and before we parted, I prayed that God would bless him and open a door for employment. The next day he rang to say he had received a job offer out of the blue. Praise the Lord! Moments like this remind us that God is already at work long before we arrive.
This first month has confirmed that Wayfinding is not a programme but a posture — a way of moving through our communities with attentiveness, humility, and hope. Like the navigators of old who read the winds, currents, and signs of creation, we are learning to read the movements of the Spirit in neighbourhoods, conversations, and unexpected encounters. Wayfinding is slow, relational, and Spirit-led. It is about noticing where God is already present, joining that work gently, and trusting that each small step contributes to the larger journey God is shaping among us.
As our waka continues forward, we do so with gratitude, courage, and deep expectation — confident that the One who calls us is faithful, and that the journey ahead will reveal even more of God’s unfolding grace.
