Thought for the Week 3 May 2026

Welcome to our service today. It is nice to be back with you after a very special weekend away with our extended family in Dunedin last weekend. We didn’t get to church last Sunday but we were staying in the Russell St Sunday School building which has been converted to accommodation (does that count?). This was originally part of First Church, which I believe had various Sunday School facilities around the city. Judging by the size of the building- four large bedrooms coming off a main hall space (complete with stage), it must have been a busy place in its heyday. My thanks to Grant, Steph and Jason for their service in my absence.

Next Sunday (10 May) we will be having a congregational meeting to appoint a new elder. Parish Council will be bringing Catherine Richardson for consideration and approval to be ordained as an elder in the PCANZ. This is in recognition of Catherines’ pastoral gifts and her heart for our church community. If approval is granted, her ordination service will be held on Sunday 7 June at Trinity. Elders are a key way our church is cared for with suitably gifted people being set aside and ordained to various ministry tasks and roles.

We will also take the opportunity to have a ‘family forum’, which is a chance to talk about things going on in our church life and what might be on the horizon for us. You are encouraged to bring any questions or things you’d like to raise to this forum.
