Thought For The Week 14 December 2025

Welcome to our service today on the third Sunday in Advent. Today we are reflecting on what brings us joy and we will dive into Isaiah’s prophecy,    fulfilled in Jesus about the Messiah being anointed to bring good news. Isaiah’s words are a cascade of hope and positivity revealing God’s heart for his people, which is very welcome against a backdrop of doom, gloom and uncertainty. We are reminded by these words that we are not forgotten by God. God promises good news for the poor, healing for the broken-hearted, freedom for the captives, release from darkness, beauty for ashes, joy for morning and praise for despair. These words remind us that our circumstances are not fixed for all time. God is the restorer and rebuilder of the ‘ancient ruins’ and is always lifting us out of darkness and into his glorious light.
