Thought For The Week 21 September 2025

Welcome to our service today. I wonder if you can hear anything different? It might be too subtle to notice but our new piano has arrived. It’s a beautiful looking and sounding instrument and I had the pleasure of helping John Hargraves putting it together and then hearing him put it through its paces. Skilful players can often make anything sound good but when the instrument is also of good quality, we are given an even richer experience.
Catherine, Janie and I had the joy of attending the Alpine Presbytery retreat in Hanmer Springs over Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It was a small group of just 10 of us who were inspired and challenged by James Beck, who is part of the River Church in Christchurch and who has a particular passion for caring for the environment. His church community make a significant contribution to looking after their immediate environment around the Heathcote River and his stories were inspiring. The issues we are facing can seem overwhelming but even small and local actions can make a big difference.
We welcome Hermann Frank to the pulpit today who shares his reflections on Jeremiah 8:18-9:1 and 1 Timothy 2:1-8. Thank you for your contribution to the service today.
Nga mihi nui,
Brent
