Thought For The Week 27 April 2025

Welcome to our communion service today. I am preaching at Pleasant Point, and you will be blessed to hear from Jason Shaw, from St Andrews in Geraldine. Jason is a locally ordained minister there assisting Alistair McNaughton in that busy and thriving parish.

I was heartened by last week’s Easter services. Once again, the TCMA Good Friday service at Life Church was well attended and I felt privilege to lead the communion liturgy for this. The sunrise service was also a highlight down at Caroline Bay.

Special thanks to Lyn Kirkland and the team who cooked up fish for a delicious breakfast and great start to the day. This was capped off by a well-attended service at Trinity.

I was involved in the ANZAC dawn and civic services this year- my first time ever!

The times we are living in seem very similar to the years just prior to the second world war with nations increasing their spending on defence in the face of threats-both real and perceived and the breakdown of the world order led by the United States that has Influenced the world for the past 80 years. It seems more important than ever to remember our history, learn from it and (hopefully) not repeat it.

Next Sunday we will be having a congregational meeting after the service to formally approve our nominations to Parish Council. Members will be asked to vote on the following nominations: Murray Facer, Hermann Frank, Margaret Walker and Max Muldrew. At the same time, we will be seeking approval from our members to ordain Janie Hart as an Elder. This will bring formal recognition of Janie gifts, calling and service among us.

Nga mihi nui,

Brent
