Thought For The Week 13 August 2023

Immediately is a word that shows up again and again in the Gospels. There is an urgency about the life and the ministry of Jesus that demands attention and makes real change in people’s lives. Immediately.
But it seems that “immediately” has become a much more difficult word in today’s world. On one side, “immediately” has taken on a whole new meaning. Instead of “urgent” or “important”, or even “real”, our world clamours for “instant”. News is up to the second (which is good, because it’s not up to much else!). Politicians bray for change yesterday. If our desires aren;’t met the moment that we conceive them we somehow feel that the world has let us down.
“Immediately” is so overused, it has become meaningless.
On the other side, there are so many options, so many moving parts to life, that it seems impossible to get anything done “immediately”. Where do we even start?
My advice is this: K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Saints. All of Jesus’ life, from the miraculous to the mundane, was built on his dedication to the summary of the Law: Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, and soul and mind, and love your neighbour as you love yourself.
If we can simplify our lives to focus on these two things, then we will start to see real change.
Immediately.
Many blessings,
Rory
