Thought For The Week 11 December 2022

Welcome to our services today on the third Sunday in Advent, the theme of which is Joy.
Over the years I have used a resource from the Church of Scotland called Spill the Beans which gives sermon suggestions, prayers, hymns and children’s activities tied to the common lectionary readings. It’s a very helpful resource to aid in tying the various elements of a service together. This year, Spill the Beans are producing their resource using the Women’s Lectionary by Ashley M Wilcox which highlights the role women have played in the gospel story. This perspective has largely been ignored or down-played in the Church’s long and male dominated history. Today we dive into the story of Ruth who is named (along with some other ‘interesting’ women) in the genealogy of Jesus, demonstrating that the incarnation of Christ involves God stepping into our humanity in all of its random messiness. I’m intrigued to see what a feminine perspective will bring to our understanding of God’s work in the world-
I expect it will be refreshing and inspiring.
As we head towards Christmas may I remind you of some significant dates and times:
