Thought For The Week 14 November 2022

Today we are dipping our toes into the subject of the ‘end times’ as we  examine Jesus’ words recorded in Mark 13:1-8 about the destruction of the temple and the signs of the end. This is a fascinating topic and one that is complex and rife with various interpretations.

The Covid pandemic has certainly sparked renewed interest among many Christians on this topic with speculation that this might be a sign of the end of the age. The ‘no jab, no job’ mantra is fuelling speculation that we may be heading towards a global dictatorship of the anti-Christ where no one can buy or sell unless they carry the mark of the beast!

This can be very scary and dramatic but amidst Jesus’ warnings are words of comfort and assurance that such trials and tribulations are very normal and to be expected. In fact, Jesus tells us that his return will be an unmissable event (see Mark 13:26) and speculation on when this will be is futile. His words are more about preparing us for the challenge of following him than they are about predicting the future.

Important notice:

Rory has requested and been granted by the Parish Council extra leave to deal with a family crisis and so is out of circulation for the next few weeks. Due to the nature of the situation privacy has been requested and so the details won’t be shared. The Grant family appreciate all the help they have received in the wake of Andrea’s operation and recovery but request privacy at this time. They have a close network of friends providing the support they need. Please keep them in your prayers.
