Thought For The Week 16 February

As you may know, I am in Dunedin this week helping mum settle home from her stay at Burwood hospital. She is doing very well, although it is a bit of a whirlwind getting used to the new routine.
While I was here I had the unexpected blessing of attending the ordination and induction of Rev. Hayden Luke as a Minister at Highgate Presbyterian – my home church – with special responsibility for the B@tCH congregation.
Sometimes God puts special people into your life. People whose paths you cross at significant moments for both of you. Hayden is one of those people for me. I first met him 20 years ago at the Tirohanga Easter Camp when he was a young man exploring his future and I was a camp parent discovering the first inklings of a call to ministry. Since then we have prayed together, we have shared together, we have encouraged each other, and we have been present for some truly significant moments. God moments.
Thursday night felt like another one of these. To stand with the members of Southern Presbytery, laying on hands and praying for Hayden as he begins this ministry felt like more than a privilege, it felt like a blessing from God.
So look out for those special people whom God puts in your life. Notice them. Make space for them. Bring them before the Lord in prayer and share in the Good News that Jesus brings us life in all of its abundance.

Rory Grant
