Thought For The Week 15 December 2019
Things are starting to gear up towards Christmas. The kids are finishing school, gifts are being wrapped, trees are being decorated, and there are strawberries everywhere.
For many of us, this is a very full time of year. And, by full, I mean busy. We rush from one thing to the next, trying to get everything done in time for the great Kiwi shutdown over New Year. Things can get so mad that we don’t know whether we are coming or going.
For others, Christmas can be a very empty time of year. The empty spot at the table. The hollow in their favourite chair. Like many of you I have my own, fresh space of emptiness in my life this Christmas.
Where do we go? How we avoid over-filling our lives, or ending up feeling empty? Or even worse, both at the same time!
In the church, this is the time of the year when we remember and look forward to the fulfilment of our hopes. There will be no more crying or mourning our pain. There will no longer be those who have too much, nor too little.
So take some time out from whatever is keeping you too busy, or whatever is reminding you of the gap in your life, and drink deeply of God’s love this Christmas. And may you be fulfilled. May the joy of the Lord be with you, always.
