Thought for the Week 24 November
Welcome to our special combined service this morning. Today we will welcome new members, make a Christmas cake and worship Christ the King! Today also marks the 10th anniversary of the amalgamation of Trinity, Chalmers, St Paul’s and St Stephen’s into Timaru Presbyterian Parish. Happy birthday TPP!
What does it mean to be a member of the Church? We are members of Christ’s body first and foremost by virtue of our faith and baptism and some assume this is all you need and having your name on a local church roll is meaningless. But membership of the local church raises our level of commitment and belonging, opens up greater opportunities to serve and lead and helps the church know who it is responsible for pastorally. Membership provides mutual accountability in our communal life. It is with great joy that we welcome folk into membership today.
On Thursday night a few of us travelled to Ashburton for the induction of Rev Johanna Warren into the Hakatere Parish. This brought to a conclusion my 29-month involvement with this parish helping them to find a new minister and to amalgamate 2 into one. It has been a long journey for them and me but we are very happy to have a positive settlement and we wish Johanna well in her new role.
Coming up: Tuesday 26 is the final community lunch held at St Stephens for the year. Bev Quigley and team have done a fine job of hosting these lunches which have been a blessing to many.
Timaru District Choir will be performing A Musical Feast on Sat 30th 7pm, at Trinity. Tickets are $15 at the door.
