Thought For The Week 2 September 2018

Spring is Springing all around us, and as we look around at the green      returning to the land, the flowers flowering, and the daffodils breaking new ground, we wonder at the beauty and the glory of new life.

Today is also Father’s Day, a day to celebrate the strength and protection, the care, the concern, the shelter and the love that we see in our fathers and we give thanks for in our Father above.

At times, in our human brokenness, the fatherhood that we provide and experience falls short of the all-encompassing love that God gives us so freely.

We weep for our own incompleteness.

Jesus called God “Abba”: Father, Papa, Dad.  With God’s Fathering love, there is not   only perfection and strength, but also tenderness, redemption and grace.  We remember that in Jesus, through the work of the Holy Spirit, God is making all things new.

So, as we celebrate the new life of spring, may we also pray for new life and renewal for the oh-so human fathers in our lives, and pray for the fathering love of God to transform our world just as Spring transforms the earth.

Arohanui,

Rory Grant
