Thought For The Week 1 July 2018

At the moment my household is gripped by World-Cup fever.
Every four years, teams and supporters from around the world gather for the drama, the spectacle, the excitement of the world’s largest event.
I think there might be some football played too!
I know that we’re pretty keen on the oval ball code here in Aotearoa, but even the harshest critic of the round ball game has to admit that there is something special about how these events bring people together.
A friend of mine recently traveled to the Ukraine for the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid. When he arrived, he realised that the accommodation that had looked so good online was not really fit for human habitation. He was homeless on the other side of the world, with very few people who could speak English. Within hours a Ukrainian family had opened their home to him, and within days he had made contacts and friends the world over.
This is the Good that we hope for in humanity. In Jesus, we find human good, made complete. He is the source, the model and the destiny of all that makes us human together. So, as you enjoy the sporting spectacle, I encourage you to look with new eyes, and maybe, just maybe catch a glimpse of the hope of a restored humanity that we all look for in Christ.
Arohanui,
Rory
