Thought For The Week 27 May 2018

Welcome to our services today. The 1st Sunday after Pentecost is celebrated as Trinity Sunday, honouring the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The doctrine of the trinity can be very difficult to explain and most explanations fall short in some way. We say we worship one God so we are firmly monotheistic and yet there are 3 distinct persons, so critics claim we are pantheist. How can God be one yet three? We have this doctrine because the New Testament witnessed to the experience of the first Christians, who understood God to be revealed and encountered in these 3 persons. We are invited to likewise experience God in the trinity- not to understand this-it is beyond comprehension, but to be drawn into the eternal love this triune God reveals.

Last Sunday night we hosted our second family night which is becoming a regular gathering around food, family friendly activities and relaxed fellowship. About 20    people gathered which included a number of children and we focused our discussion around the Biblical mandate of caring for creation. I was especially encouraged that a number of our older folk participated which is what we really want to see- generations hanging out together being church in a new way. Our family nights are off to a good start and I’m excited to see how these will develop.

Blessings,

Brent
