Thought For The Week 4 March 2018

I have been pleasantly surprised this week by the positive response that so many of you have shared about my sermon last week.  It is amazing how thinking about the vastness and intricacy of the universe inspires in us a sense of wonder, awe, beauty and love.

Far too often, when we’re bogged down by the trials and tribulations of life, we lower our eyes and shut down our imagination.  Every day can seem as grey as the last, and as hopeless as the next.  We think that by controlling our world, we will be happier, but the opposite is true.

Wonderfully, surprisingly, when we allow ourselves to see our own small place in the jewel-like beauty of creation, our dreams and our hearts are enlarged by God’s goodness.

I encourage each of you to pray in the morning “God, please show me something beautiful today.”  Then open your eyes, and truly notice the everyday beauty of the things we take for granted.  At the end of the day, reflect and give thanks at what you have seen.  Allow God’s Spirit to transform your own into a spirit of beauty and hope.

Arohanui,

Rory
