Thought For The Week 8 October
Welcome to our combined service today. Over the weekend around 80 people from all over the Alpine Presbytery (which stretches from the Waitaki River to the top of the South Island and the West Coast) gathered in Timaru to share stories, worship together, conduct business, be inspired and encourage one another in the call God has placed on our lives. Some of the attenders have stayed on for worship with us this morning- we trust you will be blessed and refreshed in God’s presence today. I’d also like to thank those who helped make the weekend such a success by helping with food and venue set-up.
Last week we held our AGM using an innovative approach of weaving elements of the meeting through our worship service. Our aim was to look back at the year past and celebrate the good things God has done while also attending to the necessary business of an AGM. The feedback I received was mostly positive; people appreciated the freshness of this approach. However, we also realized we did not allow sufficient time for questions and discussion between voting to pass the motions. Something to learn for next time!
If you are around St Stephen’s this week you will notice work is going on painting the church and doing repair work to the hall roof. The next item there will be is to recarpet the stage. It’s exciting to see all this work going on!
The week just past saw us farewell Jeff Kirkland and Jim Steven who will be missed. We give thanks for their lives and their contribution to our church and community and our prayers are with their families.
